Regina Cassandra, a well-known actress with a diverse body of work, most recently appeared in the South Korean action comedy Midnight Runners adaptation Saakini Daakini. However, the Indian adaptation has a unique twist. The remake’s two female leads contrast with the original’s two male stars. The teaser has garnered positive reviews from many viewers and features Regina and Nivetha Thomas sharing screen time for the first time. The actress discussed films that are available on streaming services (OTT) and their effect on the Indian film business in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama.
Saakini Daakini, starring Regina Cassandra and Nivetha Thomas, received a wide release in the South, but when questioned if it would get the same treatment in other regions of the nation, Regina mentioned how people frequently mistakenly believe they will watch the movie on OTT after a month. She even told Bollywood Hungama that Saakini Daakini would be available on Netflix in a month. It will be available on Netflix in a month, she said. She said, “That’s what everyone’s thing is at the moment.” Everyone predicts that “it will appear on OTT” (arrey OTT pe toh aajayega).
Regarding how it has impacted producers and distributors in particular as well as box office receipts, Regina continued, “I know it surely has impacted receipts. They have been impacted much more than I or anyone else anticipated. That would serve as a decent barometer for quality material. If your content is truly excellent, viewers will swarm to the theatre to see it. And I believe that we can now use this as a yardstick for what constitutes quality content, as well as a reminder that drawing audiences to the theatre won’t be simple. Now we need to devise plans for how to bring people to the theatres. We’ll need to put in more effort than we did previously.
She also discussed the substantial social media marketing for Saakini Daakini that she had to perform. We worked on it. In the past week, I’ve spent a lot of time on social media. It is the most I’ve ever been in my life. Speaking with people, conducting interviews, promoting, tweeting, retweeting, uploading, etc. are all things I’ve been doing. Although everything has been hectic, we must still proceed. We just need to push the envelope as far as we can if we want a theatrical release, and a large one at that,” she said.
