Mahila Seva Samaj School in Prema’s district provided her with her high school diploma. She then enrolled in a pre-university course at Kodagu’s Murnad Junior College. Throughout her time in high school and college, she actively participated in athletics.
In 1995, she made her acting debut in the Kannada movie Savyasachi. She got the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actress in her very next movie, OM. She won the Udaya Film Award for Best Actress the next year, in 1996, for her performance in Nammoora Mandara Hoove. She became well-known in the Kannada cinema industry in just one year. Following that, she made her debut in the Telugu and Malayalam cinema industries with The Prince and Dharma Chakram, respectively. After making her Telugu cinema debut, she appeared in six Telugu movies straight.
She worked primarily in Kannada and Telugu films, and by the year 2000, she was one of the most sought-after actresses in the south Indian film business. After getting married in 2006, she only continued to work on the films she had already committed to. 2009 saw her retire from the film industry. After her divorce, she returned to the big screen in 2017 with the movie Upendra Matte Baa.
