MADURAI: Tamil Nadu deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam filed his nomination for the April 6 assembly election in the Bodinaickanur constituency in Theni district on Friday.
Before heading to the taluk office to file his nomination, Panneerselvam offered prayers at a nearby temple. For the third time, the Deputy Chief Minister is vying for the seat of Bodinaickanur. In the assembly elections of 1991, 2011, and 2016, he ran from this seat. He received 99,531 votes in 2016.
Panneerselvam was accompanied by his uncle, P Ravindranath Kumar, Theni MP, and AIADMK officials.
He said that as a member of the legislature, he had kept his promises to his constituents. “I work with the mindset that helping people is my only goal,” he said.
Even during the Covid-19 crisis, he said, the state government, led by chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, had performed admirably. “I am sure that with the overwhelming support of the people, we will return to power,” he said.
