Jaishankar’s Biography & Profession
Jaishankar is a Chennai native who grew up in the city. Subramaniam Shankar is his real name. He was studying law at the time, but he dropped out in the middle to pursue his love for theatre. He was a member of the Cho’s Viveka Fien Arts troupe, but he left because he wasn’t given meaningful roles. He then joined the Koothabiran’s Kalki Fine Arts troupe, where he had the opportunity to perform important title roles. For his performances, he received a lot of praise. He was unable to break into the film industry because it was dominated by veteran actors such as Sivaji Ganesan, Gemini Ganesan, and MGR.
In 1965, he made his acting debut in Iravum Pagalum, a Tamil film. He rose to fame as an action hero. Since he mainly played detective action roles, he was nicknamed “Tamil James Bond.” CID Shankar and Vallavan Oruvan are two of his notable action films. Since he released movies almost every week, he was dubbed “Friday Star.” In Nootrukku Nooru, it was K Balachander who brought out the best in him. He was also a well-known comic actor who gave memorable comic performances in films like Kuzhandaiyum Deivamum and Pattanathil Bhootham.
Since appearing in over 100 films as a lead actor, he went on to play supporting and lead actor’s father roles in his later career. During the 1970s and 1980s, he was the undisputed king of the Tamil film industry.
